CLIENT

$400M commercial construction management

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

SEARCH ASSIGNMENT

+ Pre-construction Group Leader

REFERRED BY
We were introduced to the client by Cornerstone Advisors, a succession and human capital development firm that has trusted us for over seven years.

CHALLENGES
There were no local prospects so we needed to find a very specific candidate who was able to relocate to Harrisburg. This was a newly created position and there were 3 long tenured Chief Estimators who either thought they should have this opportunity or would need to be replaced by the new leader. The candidate would need to gain immediate respect from senior leadership and existing staff and clients, as well as be able to evaluate and upgrade the companywide estimating system. The client was also in the middle of transitioning from an Agency CM to a CMAR organization.

SEARCH PLAN + RESULTS
Due to the relocation aspect of the assignment we needed a very large candidate pool. We had to quadruple the number of prospects we usually talk with.

The search was successfully completed with a classic “sleeper” candidate. We simply talked to enough prospects that the numbers eventually worked in our favor. We were able to find a high potential prospect who was looking to raise his family in a small town and build a world-class Precon group for a smaller company.

CLIENT

Privately held $500M general contractor

Chicago, Illinois

SEARCH ASSIGNMENT

+ Vice President of Preconsruction

REFERRED BY
Our client was referred to us by FMI. We have remained on Fails Management Institute’s preferred executive search firm list for over 20 years.

CHALLENGES
The client had a number of joint venture relationships which limited the local candidate pool. After submitting our first shortlist, the position was put on hold and then downgraded to a Manager level. When the position was downgraded we need to find candidates who were willing to come into the company and compete for the senior role with an established Senior Estimator.

SEARCH PLAN + RESULTS
One of our core strengths is flexibility and helping our clients when their search requirements either change or evolve. We responded proactively to our client’s request to find someone to come in at a lower level and work with the outgoing SVP of Preconstruction while proving themself to the organization. We amended the candidate profile and refocused our search efforts.

We were able to find a young local candidate who had previously worked for Power. This candidate had a project management background, as well as strong communication skills. He knew many of the architects and developers the client worked with and was able to blend in well with the top project executives.
